2024 April PAD Challenge: Day 16

For today’s Two-for-Tuesday prompt:

Write a poetic form poem, and/or…Write an anti-form poem.

If you need some ideas for poetic forms, here’s a list of more than 100 poetic forms to try out. And here are 10 short poetic forms, if you think shorter is easier.

Also, if you don’t think writing a poetic form or non-form counts as a prompt, write a poem about forms, whether we’re talking life forms, the human form, (overdue) tax forms, etc.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Play with poetic forms!

Poetic forms are fun poetic games, and this digital guide collects more than 100 poetic forms, including more established poetic forms (like sestinas and sonnets) and newer invented forms (like golden shovels and fibs).

Here’s my attempt at a Poetic Form and/or Anti-Form Poem:

“drowning”

so then we
walk through all the streets
like cats who
come and go
singing songs that we love so—
michelangelo

(This poetic form is a shadorma, and it’s a little nod to one of my all-time favorite poems, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” by T. S. Eliot.)
