2024 April PAD Challenge: Day 2

For today’s prompt, we have our first two-for-Tuesday prompt, which means you get two prompts. You can write to one of the prompts, both the prompts separately, or try to write a poem that works with both prompts at the same time. The prompts are:

Write a happy poem, and/or…Write a sad poem.

Two sides of the same emotional coin.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Later this month, be sure to check out the 3rd annual Writer’s Digest Poetry Writing Virtual Conference with four great presentations put on by award-winning poets covering a variety of topics, including how to put together poetry collections and bring fresh insight to familiar ideas.

Here’s my attempt at a Happy and/or Sad Poem:

“dust in my eyes”

the older i get
the more i cry

when i’m happy
& when i’m sad

or at the movies
or reading a book

or remembering
a stray moment

i almost forgot
& maybe it’s dust

or perhaps pollen
but i think maybe

it’s just a lifetime
filled with living

& knowing we all
have something

to gain & to lose
& that it’s all so

beautiful no matter
which we choose
