Here’s my attempt at a story based on one of my favorite childhood books:

Wild Thing

Max is rocking his baby girl, the chair making a horrible creak-crunk as they move forward and back. The room is dark except for the soft glow of the diaper wipe warmer on the changing table. He’s tired from a long day at the office, his body craving the cool rustle of his sheets, his wife’s soft breathing. His newborn’s eyes are wide and dark, alert, even after a full four ounces of milk.

“I used to be a Wild Thing, you know,” he whispers to her. “King of the Wild Things, in fact.”

His daughter farts, loud and wet.
