2024 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 25

For today’s prompt, write a nature poem. This is one I’ve used multiple times over the years. I like it, because you can write about the great outdoors type of nature, but also human nature, the nature of various people and things, including the nature of technology, monsters, fiction, etc.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at a Nature Poem:

“Nature Boy,” by Robert Lee Brewer

It’s not that I want to run out
and hug every tree. Or lay down
in a meadow, letting butterflies
hover over me. It’s just walking
along a trail without asphalt
or congestion seems to center
me, pull me closer to the earth,
and slow down time. I can stop
long enough to think about
nothing, to forget for a while
that anything else exists.
