Here’s my attempt at a story about a work in progress:

Baby Steps

She was working on her triggers in therapy, but her ex was her biggest obstacle.

“I don’t understand what’s taking so long,” he whined over the phone one night. “We filed weeks ago.”

“The holidays slowed the process.” She stirred the soup, reminding herself to take deep breaths.

“It’s making Joanie feel bad! Guilty.”

As if he hadn’t just moved out of their marital home. Deep breaths. Water off a duck’s back. “I’m sorry that your girlfriend isn’t comfortable with your ongoing marriage.”

“You don’t have to be nasty,” he snapped.

Instead of cursing him out, she pressed End Call.
