2025 February Flash Fiction Challenge: Day 14

If you’ve followed my WD career at all, you’ll know that I love fan fiction (and I write it too)! It’s an amazing space that can help you by giving you a framework and safe space to practice various aspects of your craft. Here are some of my favorite fan fiction-related topics here on the WD site:

To honor my love of fan fiction, today’s prompt is to write from the perspective of a well-known character.

(Note: If your story gets flagged for review, be patient—we will be releasing comments every few hours throughout the weekdays of this challenge. Our system randomly flags comments for review, so just sit tight and wait for us to set it free! If you run into any other issues with posting your story, please just send me an e-mail at mrichard@aimmedia.com with the subject line: Flash Fiction Challenge Commenting Issue.)

Here’s my attempt at a story from the POV of a well-known character:

The Aftertaste of Blood

Mina would never admit to missing the vampire’s bite. It would be death. She sees it sometimes, the wariness in those around her, even after so many years. They sense that the woman who went under Dracula’s spell was not the one who came out of it. But as she washes Quincey’s grass-stained trousers, stirs soup on the stove, lays down at night with Jonathan, she reminisces on the power that strengthened her hands, the connection between them. His low voice in her mind. She’d been more than a wife, a mother; she’d been a god.
