2025 Get Started Right Writing Challenge: Day 7

For the seventh day of this challenge, I’m going to ask you to do something that might sound a bit repetitive, and that is to make a promise to yourself. One single promise to yourself and your writing. Maybe that promise is that you’ll read a book a week or visit a writing conference. Or perhaps, you’ll promise yourself to visit a public library every other week. There are many possibilities.

Like I said, this might seem repetitive, because I already asked you to make a list of writing goals on the first day, but I think this is different. Even if your promise is one of your goals, this should be THE one thing that you’re “all in” on making happen, both for you and your writing.

So think about it, and share with the group in the comments below, because a little accountability never hurt anyone.

Just a quick note: If you leave URLs for your handles in the comments below, they’ll likely be caught by our spam filters, but don’t hold back. I’ll be checking regularly on Monday and Tuesday to manually approve such comments.

Note on commenting: If you wish to comment on the site, go to Disqus to create a free new account, verify your account on this site below (one-time thing), and then comment away. It’s free, easy, and the comments (for the most part) don’t require manual approval.

Here is my promise to myself and my writing:

I promise myself I will make time to read at least one book for pleasure every single month this year. Whatever I read for work won’t count. I have to read at least one book each month merely for the joy of it. And as part of this promise to myself, I will also visit at least one bookstore or library each month, though I’m fairly confident it will be many more than that, because I love being near books.
