1. Alliance of Independent Authors
Now in its 6th year on this list, the nonprofit ALLi Advice Center is a comprehensive resource for indie authors, both members and nonmembers alike. Listen to the podcast, read the blog, and find ratings from their watchdog group about writing contests and publishing service providers to ensure you don’t get scammed.
2. Author Level Up
Run by WD contributor Michael La Ronn, Author Level Up offers information and tools on self-publishing and better writing through blog posts, weekly YouTube videos, courses, and more.
3. David Gaughran
David Gaughran has helped thousands of authors self-publish through his books, workshops, blogs, and more, with information on best marketing practices, boosting book sales, and avoiding scams.
4. Independent Book Publishers Association*
Founded in 1983 as an organization for small publishers in Southern California, the IBPA is now a nationwide nonprofit for self-publishers, independent publishers, and small presses offering some free resources (e.g. templates for formatting your book to industry standards) and additional resources (e.g. databases and discussion forums) for paid members.
5. Indie Author Project

6. Indy Author (Matty Dalrymple)
Run by author, speaker, and consultant Matty Dalrymple, this is one of the best resources for indie authors out there. While sections are focused on craft, publishing, and marketing, there’s also a free podcast, a blog, and lists of vetted tools and resources.

Formerly known as Small Publishers, Artists & Writers Network (SPAWN), this organization provides information, resources, and opportunities for anyone in or interested in publishing—from authors, freelancers, publishing companies, and more.
