2024 April PAD Challenge: Day 27

For today’s prompt, write a remix poem. Just remix one of your poems. It could be from earlier in this month or even from before this challenge. But take one of your already existing poems and remix it. If it’s a sonnet, make it free verse. If it’s free verse, try turning it into a triolet or villanelle. Have fun with it.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Note on commenting: If you wish to comment on the site, go to Disqus to create a free new account, verify your account on this site below (one-time thing), and then comment away. It’s free, easy, and the comments (for the most part) don’t require manual approval.

Play with poetic forms!

Poetic forms are fun poetic games, and this digital guide collects more than 100 poetic forms, including more established poetic forms (like sestinas and sonnets) and newer invented forms (like golden shovels and fibs).

Here’s my attempt at a Remix Poem:

“An Abandoned Gas Station Beside an Abandoned Payphone”

Everyone used to visit me
whenever their cars were on E,
or when they decided to flock
together to drink and to talk
about whatever seemed to be
important to them presently,
except for the older guys that
seemed partial to talking the past,
and here I’m now doing the same
forgetting each face and each name
as if someday there’ll be no trace
of them or me—all replaced!

(Note on my remix: I decided to just remix yesterday’s poem, which involved just flipping the perspective and writing a new poem. So is it a remix? Maybe, maybe not, but the point is that I have another poem to share.)
