J-Card Press is such a new press that their first titled is due out in mid-May of this year. It’s a book on 90s Dayton band Brainiac, by Justin Vellucci. And J-Card Press says music biographies is and will continue to be their jam moving forward.

The editors say, “We’re a new independent publishing company with one focus: to produce short biographies of the best alternative, indie rock, hip-hop, and riot grrrl groups of the past twenty to thirty years.”
What They’re Looking For
J-Card Press wants biographies of bands that released their first album after the 70s but have been around more than a decade. They want to see alternative, indie rock, hip-hop, and riot grrrl bands (not solo artists).
The editors say, “J-Card books are a maximum of 40,000 words. We feel that’s enough space to cover a band’s history and their albums without including stuff like gossip or score-settling. We also want these to be more or less straight forward biographies.”
How to Submit
Potential authors should submit their work via email to submissions@jcardpress.com. Authors should include which group they’d like to cover, why the band is a good subject, why they’re the right author, size of the audience for the band, proposed table of contents, writing samples, professional bio, and how long the book would take to write.
