Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 701
Before we jump into today’s prompt, I’d just like to share that we’re doing a personal essay writing challenge this week in which I share a prompt and personal essay attempt from June 24 to June 30. If you’d like to participate, you can find the prompts and guidelines here. (Since I’m no expert at writing personal essays, I wasn’t sure how it would go, but I’ve really been enjoying it so far.)
For this week’s prompt, write a summer poem. I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but it’s been super hot in Georgia this week. So it won’t surprise me if I lean into that theme if the heat allows me to write a poem at all. (But seriously, stay hydrated this week, y’all.)
Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.
Note on commenting: If you wish to comment on the site, go to Disqus to create a free new account, verify your account on this site below (one-time thing), and then comment away. It’s free, easy, and the comments (for the most part) don’t require manual approval (though I check from time to time for those that do).

Write a poem every single day of the year with Robert Lee Brewer’s Poem-a-Day: 365 Poetry Writing Prompts for a Year of Poeming. After sharing more than a thousand prompts and prompting thousands of poems for more than a decade, Brewer picked 365 of his favorite poetry prompts here.

Here’s my attempt at a Summer Poem:
“The AC Unit,” by Robert Lee Brewer
I don’t remember times before,
but I do recall that first day
as we crowded around to feel
the cold air blow in our faces
like an atmospheric oasis
or winter in our window
as summer burned outside.
